Effective January 1, 2008, the legal structure of The Dance Refinery, Inc. changed. All of the assets of The Dance Refinery and The Dance Depot were donated by Lynn Herrick to Artist in Motion, Inc., an Indiana nonprofit corporation that has been deteminded by the Internal Revenue Service to be a tax-exempt organization as described under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended. Artist in Motion, Inc. now owns and controls all assets of The Dance Refinery, Inc. but because of the strong reputation and name recognition of The Dance Refinery, the executive director and board of Artists in Motion, Inc. decided to retain The Dance Refinery as the name that the business would continue to operate under. The primary reasons behind creating Artists in Motion, Inc. were (and still are) to allow for the expansion of educational opportunities to students, and to solicit donations and grants so that additional aid can be offered to student scholarships. Lynn Herrick is the new Executive Director, of Artists in Motion, Inc. We continue to be located at 8335 S. Shelby Street with the same outstanding employees and curriculum.

Dear Parents, Students, Friends and Family,
Among my blessings as the Executive Director are the many talented, dedicated and loyal people that have or are a part of The Dance Refinery history. Most of my lifelong friends come from within The Dance Refinery walls. I’m proud to say that many of them are former students and/or staff who have helped make TDR what it is today, one of the top dance studios in the country!
The most important ingredient of The Dance Refinery is our students. Our lives are entwined with theirs as we grow and learn together. As they have progressed and their needs have changed, so have ours. In the course of thirty-three years, The Dance Refinery has gone through all kinds of transitions – location, logo, performing groups, competitive gymnastics, all star cheer, etc. (the list goes on, as does the beat).
One thing above all remains constant – all of us strive to provide our students with a quality education in whatever discipline they wish to pursue and aim to instill within them a love and appreciation for that art form. This is what makes us so proud of how far we have come together. The training that students receive at TDR is the perfect academic supplement as it promotes physical activity and provides students with valuable life lessons in teamwork, discipline, dedication and time management, ultimately helping to shape them into confident and successful young adults.
There have been some amazing memories for me, as well as for the staff and students involved. The Dance Refinery has grown because of all of our students, family and friends past and present. Thank you for believing in the dreams of your children and trusting us to refine your most precious jewel! We look forward to thirty more years and what they may bring with all of you.

« Many graduates have gone on to pursue dance and musical theatre degrees at American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA), Butler
University, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Julliard, Indiana University, Millikin, New York University, Pointe Park College, and
University of Arizona.

« Other former members have eased out of the collegiate role and into the professional world, pursuing opportunities such as; Hubbard Street
Dance Company and River North Dance; performing in films (American Beauty); dancing for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular;
touring as a dancer for Christina Aguilera; Indianapolis Colts Cheerleader, Indiana Pacemate, Cincinnati Bengal’s Cheerleader; Principal
role in the National Tour of Bye Bye Birdie, and teacher and studio owner in Canada.
